TESTIMONIALS

Grateful for the wonderful people I got to work with

I had the pleasure of managing Sweta as part of her summer internship. Despite limited oversight, she consistently delivered high-quality, on-time work throughout her engagement. While being extremely detail oriented, she also displayed tremendous adaptability to many of the hurdles that routinely come up during a UX research initiative.

Sweta garnered tremendous enthusiasm amongst stakeholders who will be impacted directly by the output of her research.

I am Stacey Oliver, DSc, lecturing professor in the School of Information at The University of Texas at Austin (adjunct). I have dedicated the last 15 years of my life to helping students shape their career and Sweta Krishnamurthi Shankar stood out as an exception when she enrolled in my INF 385G Advanced Usability course in spring 2023.

Sweta’s overall participation in class is only the start of what makes her standout. It was clear that Sweta was invested in a way that few students are. She would go above and beyond when receiving feedback. She was clearly committed to doing her best work and getting the most out of our time together. This was evident many times. One time in particular came to mind when I assigned a real-world semester-long research group project. The project intentionally had vague guidelines, on first attempt of identifying a problem statement, she and her teammates struggled to develop a problem statement with an appropriate scope. But after talking it over with the stakeholder, they clearly heard the feedback and regrouped to develop a problem statement that kept the project on track and clearly identified the real need. The result was a project that was on point from end to end. This reflected Sweta’s ability to critically think and apply her research knowledge.

Additionally, Sweta’s knowledge of User Experience research was clear when she developed a lecture about mixed research methods. The lecture included real world examples and exercises that made the material accessible and engaging. The success of the lecture was based on her approach to developing it, Sweta “UX’d” the assignment by intentionally considering and tailoring the lecture to the audience.

After class ended Sweta sought me out to help with her case studies for her portfolio. Her dedication to developing interesting stories along with demonstrating her skill was impressive considering this was her first tempt at such a daunting task. She iterated her work after carefully considering my feedback, few students are dedicated to growing the way she is.

When you combine Sweta’s enthusiasm, her ability to critically think, her research skills / knowledge with her good nature and willingness to fully commit, she will be an asset to any organization lucky enough to hire her.

I had the opportunity to interact with Sweta through the CONNECT program, a graduate student consulting program I manage at the University of Texas at Austin. She was tasked with collaborating with the team and key stakeholders to improve the UI/UX of EPINET-TX’s web-based analytics application, EpiDash. Throughout the entire engagement, Sweta conducted herself professionally, was very organized and open to feedback and consistently kept me updated about her project progress with the Dell Medical School team. Sweta was truly a pleasure to have part of the team!
